European Union wins Nobel Peace Prize

12^th Oct 2012: OSLO (Reuters) - The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prizeon Friday for promoting peace, democracy and human rights over six decades, a morale boost for the bloc as it struggles to resolve its economic crisis.

The award served as a reminder that the EU had largely brought peace to a continent that tore itself apart in two world wars in which tens of millions died.

The EU has transformed most of Europe "from a continent of wars to a continent of peace", Nobel Committee Chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said in announcing the award in Oslo.

"The EU is currently undergoing grave economic difficulties and considerable social unrest," Jagland said. "The Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to focus on what it sees as the EU's most important result: the successful struggle for peace and reconciliation and for democracy and human rights."

Jagland praised the EU for rebuilding Europe from the devastation of World War Two and for its role in spreading stability after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

While welcomed by European leaders, the award will have little practical effect on the debt crisis afflicting the single currency zone, which has brought economic instability and social unrest to several states, with rioting in Athens and Madrid.

On the streets of the Greek capital, where demonstrators have burned Nazi flags to protest against German demands for austerity, the award was greeted with disbelief.

"Is this a joke?" asked Chrisoula Panagiotidi, 36, a beautician who lost her job three days ago. "It's the last thing I would expect. It mocks us and what we are going through right now. All it will do is infuriate people here."

The prize, worth $1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on December 10. It was not immediately clear who from the EU would be there to collect the check and what it would be spent on.

Farmers’ Club of Surajpura ( Ajmer) initiates freeing encroachment in
pastureland of 25 hac. of land

In the monthly meeting of farmers club it was discussed that the district administration is going to help in removing encroachment from the community land where people support positively. Members of farmers club in Surajpura decided to do it in their village also. They wrote a letter on their letterhead to revenue department requesting for removing encroachment from the pastureland field since they have very small land remained for grazing their cattle and fodder scarcity prevails there.

Farmer’s Club also assured to give their full possible cooperation and support in this task and invited the district administration in the village. Finally 150 bigha (25 hac.) land has been freed from the encroachment voluntarily and with some force and counseling. 

Major Achievements under LIFE project in September 2012@RCDSSS Ajmer

·                     Removed encroachment from 24 hac. of pastureland by Farmer’s Club initiative of Veer Teja Kisan Club of Surajpura in collaboration of district administration. A written application were submitted for it by Farmers Club on their letterhead to district revenue officer.

·                     Two applications for Old age pensions were submitted for Shrikishan s/o Ramkaran Jat and Biram s/o Choga Redas of Surajpura village.

·                     Obtained KCC (Kisan Credit Card) for Laxmanram s/o Kaluram Jat of Surajpura village and mobilize 25000/- as crop loan from bank.

·                     5 farmers in Nepoli, Kesarpura & Devaliya adopted Vermin Compost units whereas 3 farmers in Kesarpura & Nolkha established units of Azola Grass.

·                     18 birth certificates got prepared in Gudha village by handholding support of our animator.

·                     Panchu Singh s/o Mitthu Singh of Nolkha village got subsidy on purchasing of spray machine from Agri. Department by handholding support of our team.

·                     20 girls in tailoring and 12 girls in Beauty parlor trained in Nolkha village.

·                     Members of Shri Ganesh Kisan Club of Kesarpura mobilized an additional spray machine with the income of hiring charges of previous machines provided by Nabard assistance.

·                     37 farmers of Kesarpura & Nepoli village were trained on crop conservation and preparation of Rabi crop by scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

·                     KVK Ajmer as announced to provide crop demonstration of wheat to 30 farmers for 1 acre each.

·                     26 cattle receive artificial insemination through project support.

·                     Total 1803 people were benefited with the services of four Rojgar Dhaba cum Information Centres in Life project. Out of these 576 people participated in various meetings & trainings at the centre, 482 watched programs on TV and 745 people read newspaper & magazines.

1. Context:

Promotion of livestock management and organic agriculture was the main objective of this month because livestock is also a part of income generation activity and promotion of organic agriculture in rural area.

2. Major Achievements : (Results/targeted achievements)

·         16 farmers have  benefited through the interface with agriculture department

·    34 households, 50 cattels have benefited through the vaccination facility of government for livestock

·         5  house holds 12 cattels have benefited through the insurance schemes for livestock  

·     10 farmers have prepared  organic inputs-Amritpani and das patti ark medicine for the Kharif season.

·         226 villagers have visited in Rozgar Dhaba in reporting month

Training on organic manure preparation

Training on organic manure preparation had conducted on 20, 22^, and 24 September 2012 serial wise in Jamrai, Ambapada and Kanajpada village. The assistance agriculture officer Mr. Bhupendra Joshi was the resource persons for these trainings total 63 participants availed the benefits of these training. Where was from Jamrai 20, Ambapada 22 and from Kanajpada 21.

Output

All participants knew about the organic agriculture, preparation of organic fertilizers and government schemes of KVK related to kharif season. 33 farmers have started the preparation of organic fertilisers and medicine.

Training on Live Stock management for sustainable agriculture

Training on Live stock management had conducted on 6, 10, 21 and 26 September 2012 serial wise in khedlee, Kanajpada, Amlipada and Nathpura village. The Dr. Ranawat of vetnary Hospital and the assistant of vet nary hospital Mr. Valu bhabor and Mr. Ramchand Devda was the resource person of these training.  Total 84 participants availed the benefits of theses training.

In this month, total 34 participants have the benefits of vaccination of animals and 5 farmers got the benefits of insurance schemes of Government in 50% subsidy

Monthly staff review meeting

The Monthly staff Review meeting had conducted on 1/10/2012 in SJVS, Banswara. In which Director of SJVS Banswara, accountant, coordinator and 5 animators of LIFE project had participated. Firstly, Animators of LIFE project had presented monthly activity report to the coordinator after that, the coordinators presented the combine monthly progress report September month and next month  planning to Director and all staff.  Coordinator and animator had shared some key learning of 4 days workshop on project formulation and related some field activity. The Director had told to coordinator and animators that this month may be external monitoring from funding agency of the project so please do work properly. He had also suggested to coordinator and animators that every one complete there target activity monthly wise and done the reporting systematically.

4. Linkages & Liasioning:

·         Networking with Panchayat for attending gram panchayat meting.

·         Mr. Rajendra Singh, DDM, NABARD, Banswara for linkage to farmers club for approval of farmers club.

·         Networking with KVK for organizing the training on organic manure preparation

   5.  Challenges faced during the implementation of the project (during particular month)

·  Problem in conducting the training at Village level because Resource person don’t meet at time by which training don’t successful according to planning.

·  Problem in Conducting inauguration program of Farmers club by NABARD because DDM time schedule is very busy and he isn’t giving fixed date for inauguration.

·   LIFE team has learned about proposal formulation process for the project.

·   LIFE team has also learned about the live stock management process and knows about the government schemes for livestock.
